Ukraine Centre is a Swiss independent, non-political non-profit organization incepted by three English-speaking congregations -Scots Kirk, Our Lady of Faith and Christ Church- and also supported by All Saints, fostering the integration of Ukrainians displaced by the war into Swiss society and closed bonds between Switzerland and Ukraine in economic and public affairs. From its base in the heart of Lausanne, the organization delivers three mission programmes:
Effective communication is the cornerstone of integration. Our language learning programme offers courses in both French and English, catering to all levels from beginners to advanced speakers. These courses are designed to help refugees gain the language skills necessary to participate fully in Swiss society, whether in everyday interactions, education, or employment
Finding employment is a critical step towards self-sufficiency and integration. Our professional integration programme assists refugees in developing the skills and connections they need to enter the Swiss job market. This includes career counseling, CV writing workshops, interview preparation, and networking opportunities with local employers.
The trauma of displacement and the stress of adapting to a new environment can be overwhelming. Our personal support programme offers psychological counseling and practical advice to help refugees manage their mental health and well-being. We provide a safe space for individuals to express their concerns and receive guidance from trained professionals.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide comprehensive support to Ukrainian refugees, helping them to build a new life in Switzerland. We understand the challenges faced by those who have been displaced by conflict, and our programmes are designed to address these challenges by providing practical assistance, education, and emotional support.
The Ukraine Centre was founded in response to the growing needs of Ukrainian refugees. Three congregations in Lausanne recognized the urgent necessity to support these individuals and families as they navigated the complexities of starting anew in a foreign country. With this vision, the Ukrainian Day Center as it was known was established to offer a helping hand and ensure that Ukrainian refugees receive the support they need.
Our team is composed of dedicated professionals and volunteers who are committed to making a difference. Each member brings a unique set of skills and experiences, contributing to a holistic approach to refugee support. Our team includes language instructors, career counselors, psychologists, and administrative staff who work together to deliver our mission programmes effectively.
The Ukraine Centre is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by an Executive Committee and a Management Team. These bodies ensure that our organization operates with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Our leadership is passionate about our mission and works tirelessly to oversee the successful implementation of our programmes.
We believe in the power of collaboration. The Ukraine Centre works closely with local authorities, other non-profit organizations, and the Swiss community to enhance our support network for Ukrainian refugees. These partnerships enable us to provide more comprehensive services and create a more inclusive environment for our beneficiaries.
